Prof Dr. Dibya Shree Malla

Born on September 19, 1934, Professor Dr Dibya Shree Malla (FRCOG) is a well-known name in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Nepal and at present is associated with the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences, Kathmandu.

Finding difficulty to serve the women in need as a newly graduated doctor from India, she went for higher study in UK and acquired professional membership MRCOG in 1967. After her education she came back to Nepal and contributed to establish speciality and sub speciality in women care while serving in different position including Hospital Director at Bir Hospital and Maternity hospital of Nepal.
The belief, that research and education is the backbone of quality service, had enabled Prof. Malla to develop Post graduate education programme (for national and international doctors) in Nepal. Prof. Malla has also been involved in a number of research studies on maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in collaboration with the WHO and keeps keen interest in Nepal’s achievement in MDG 4-5.

Prof. Malla also served as Vice-Chair of the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) from 1991-1994 and as the Dean of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Kathmandu from 2003 till 2006. Besides her work in Nepal, Prof. Malla also served as Examiner of Postgraduate programme in the UK, Bangladesh and Pakistan. In addition, she also chaired the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) International Representative Committee in Nepal from 2007 to 2012.

Her aim is to serve women and children with dignity and respect.
